Confessions of a newbie mother: Baby in the big city

Ooopps we did it again. We left the country with our baby. Now I'm sure that there are many little toddlers out there who have ventured out into the big wide world a lot more times than my little one. But for someone who had a though first meeting with motherhood I reckon I should get a medal for stepping back into my traveling nomad lifestyle. Yes we did make an easy transition by setting off to Cyprus as his first destination, but let's face it you can't keep me away from the big city. So off we went to London town. We chose to stay at a hotel that's was a bit off the tourist trail, well not on the regular path anyway, in Kensington. We opted for an apartment style hotel with a kitchenette in the room as we thought it would give us the opportunity to make food for the little one. In retrospective it might not have been necessary as we probably could just have used an electric kettle. All in all though I was pretty pleased with the hotel. The room was your regular size British room so in other words, small, but the bathroom was quite large, very modern and clean and the service was impeccable. The best part was the location. About 3 minute walk from Earls Court station and very baby friendly environment with restaurants and several grocery shops nearby.

Well enough of the hotel PR. In case you want to know, the name of the hotel is Base2stay. But like I said, enough with marketing strategy and over to the baby in the city. Although we lived nearby the tube station, we hardly used it, but mostly took the bus, taxi or just used walked around. We were out from early morning to late afternoon and it really wasn't a problem at all. Of course, we made sure that we had provisions for the little one, always carrying a banana around. When he got tired, he just slept in the stroller. We did of course avoid the busiest streets like Oxford Street. I'm pretty sure my hubby would get a stroke or something if we ventured into that craziness with the little one.

It is worth telling though that we didn't travel by ourselves. My hubby's parents came along with us. Always good to have company and a pair of extra helping hands. This meant that I was able to take part of the craziness of Oxford Street one afternoon by myself. London love with a baby.
